Best eSIM for Turkey: Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom plans compared
Find the best eSIM for Turkey: today's cheapest plans by data amount, unlimited limits, Turkcell vs Vodafone vs Türk Telekom, IMEI rules and coastal tips.
The best eSIM for Turkey is a data plan that covers the length of your stay, connects to at least one of the three national networks along your route, and states its speed limits clearly if it is sold as unlimited. Turkey is not part of the EU's free roaming zone, so for most visitors from Europe a travel eSIM is far cheaper than roaming with their own tariff. This guide compares the Turkey plans in our database, which tracks thousands of plans from more than 30 providers and is refreshed every day, and covers what matters on the ground: the networks, the IMEI registration rule, and what happens on the coast near the Greek islands.
Which Turkey eSIM fits your trip?
Start from the kind of trip rather than the cheapest headline price:
- A city break in Istanbul: 3 to 5 GB covers maps, ride and transport apps, messaging and photos for a week. Hotels and most cafés have Wi-Fi.
- A beach holiday in Antalya, Bodrum or Fethiye: 5 to 10 GB, or more if you stream at the pool or share the connection with a tablet.
- A round trip with Cappadocia and the coast: 10 to 20 GB or an unlimited plan with a daily allowance of 2 GB or more, and a validity that covers the whole trip.
- Turkey plus Greece or other European countries: a regional plan that lists every country on your route, so you do not need a second eSIM at the border or on a ferry.
Most Turkey plans we track include 5G, and practically every plan that states a hotspot rule allows tethering. Plans with a phone number are rare; most travel eSIMs give you data only.
The figures in the boxes and tables come from our database every time the page loads, so they show today's market rather than the day this guide was written.
Turkey eSIM prices: the cheapest plan for every data amount
| Data | Validity | Price | Per GB | Provider | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 30 days | €0.36 | €0.36 | Stellar eSIM | View plan |
| 2 GB | 15 days | $0.53 (€0.47) | €0.24 | eSIM.dog | View plan |
| 3 GB | 12 days | $0.56 (€0.50) | €0.17 | eSIM.dog | View plan |
| 5 GB | 15 days | $0.94 (€0.84) | €0.17 | eSIM.dog | View plan |
| 10 GB | 15 days | $2.56 (€2.29) | €0.23 | eSIM.dog | View plan |
| 20 GB | 20 days | $4.87 (€4.36) | €0.22 | eSIM.dog | View plan |
| 50 GB | 15 days | €9.38 | €0.19 | Stellar eSIM | View plan |
Each row is the cheapest plan we track for that amount of data with at least a week of validity. Compare the price per GB, not just the total: a 10 or 20 GB plan often costs only a little more than a 3 GB one, which makes the bigger plan cheap insurance against a mid-trip top-up.
- Country or regional plan: some of the cheapest rows can be regional plans for Europe or the Middle East. They work in Turkey like a country plan; check the country list if your trip continues elsewhere.
- Validity: most providers start the validity at the first connection in Turkey. A 15-day plan on a 16-night holiday means buying extra data on the last day.
- Currency: many providers price in US dollars; we convert at the daily ECB rate and mark those plans, and your bank may add a foreign currency fee.

Unlimited plans for Turkey almost always come with a daily allowance at full speed; after that the speed drops until the next day. In our data, the most common allowances are 1 to 3 GB per day, with reduced speeds between 128 kbps and 1 Mbps. At 384 kbps or more, messaging and maps still work; at 128 kbps, even maps become slow.
The table shows two columns for each validity: the cheapest unlimited plan of any kind, and the cheapest with at least 2 GB per day at full speed. If the second costs only a little more, it is usually the better choice. Our guide Unlimited eSIM plans: how unlimited are they really? explains the models in detail.
Turkcell, Vodafone or Türk Telekom: which network?
Turkey has three national mobile networks: Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom. You will also see the name Avea on some plans: it was the former brand of Türk Telekom's mobile network, so it means the same network.
| Network | Plans | Providers | With 5G | 1 GB+ from |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Türk Telekom | 1,208 | 33 | 82 % | €0.36 |
| Vodafone | 1,049 | 22 | 92 % | €0.36 |
| Turkcell | 583 | 16 | 81 % | €0.79 |
| Null | 68 | 1 | 0 % | €2.46 |
| TT Mobil Iletisim Hizmetleri A.S. | 17 | 1 | 100 % | €8.06 |
| TTMOBIL | 15 | 1 | 100 % | €0.79 |
All three are fast in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and the main resort areas on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. Differences show up in the mountains, in parts of central and eastern Anatolia and on remote stretches of coast. Two practical rules:
- For a round trip, prefer a plan that names more than one network. Your phone can then switch to the stronger one; several plans for Turkey list all three.
- For a city or beach holiday, any of the three is usually fine. Pick by price, data and validity.
Many Turkey plans list 5G. Whether you actually get 5G depends on the network, the area and your phone; where it is not available, the plan uses 4G. The networks for every plan are shown on our Turkey page.
Do you need to register your phone (IMEI) in Turkey?
Turkey requires phones brought in from abroad to be registered when they are used with a Turkish SIM card for a longer period. A foreign phone can be used with a Turkish SIM for a limited time, currently 120 days; after that it has to be registered with a fee, or the Turkish operator blocks it on its network.
For a normal holiday with a travel eSIM, this usually does not affect you. Travel eSIMs from international providers connect to Turkish networks as roaming guests, like your home SIM would, so the phone is not used as a Turkish line. The rule matters if you buy a local Turkish SIM or eSIM, or if you stay for more than four months. In that case, check the current rules and fees with the Turkish operator before you buy. A local SIM also has to be registered with your passport when you buy it, which a travel eSIM does not need.
The coast, the Greek islands and ferries
Several Turkish resorts lie close to Greek islands, for example Bodrum near Kos, Marmaris near Rhodes, or Kaş near Kastellorizo. Near the shore, your phone may pick up a Greek network:
- With a Turkey-only plan, a Greek network gives you no data. If that happens, choose a Turkish network manually in the settings.
- With a regional plan that includes Greece, the switch is harmless and data keeps working.
- Day trips to a Greek island: a Turkey-only plan does not work there. Use a regional plan with both countries, or a small separate Greece plan for the day.
- On board a ferry, phones can connect to the ship's own maritime network, which travel eSIMs do not cover and which can be very expensive on a home SIM. Keep data roaming off on your home SIM and use Wi-Fi at sea.
Plans that cover both countries are listed on our Greece page and our Europe page; our guide Best eSIM for Europe explains how to check a regional plan's country list.
Turkey is outside EU roaming
EU roaming rules, which let EU residents use their home allowance in other EU countries, do not apply in Turkey. Many European tariffs charge a daily fee or per-megabyte prices there, and some do not include Turkey in any roaming package at all. Check your tariff before you travel, and switch off data roaming on your home SIM if you use a travel eSIM.
The same applies the other way round: phone plans from Turkey are not part of EU roaming either, so travellers from Turkey to Europe also tend to save with a travel eSIM. Our guide eSIM vs roaming vs local SIM compares the options.
How to set up your Turkey eSIM
- Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked; our guide How to check if your phone supports eSIM shows how.
- Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi a day or two before you fly. On iPhone, our guide How to install an eSIM on iPhone walks you through it.
- After landing, select the eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for that line; travel eSIMs connect as roaming guests.
- Turn off data roaming on your home SIM, so it cannot use expensive roaming data in the background.
If you need to finish the setup on arrival, use the Wi-Fi at your hotel. If the eSIM shows no service, our checklist eSIM not working abroad? 10 fixes covers the usual causes.
Questions travellers ask
Which eSIM is best for Turkey?+
The best eSIM for Turkey is a plan with enough data and validity for your stay, ideally naming more than one of the networks Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom if you travel around, and with clearly stated speed limits if it is unlimited. Compare today's cheapest plans for your data amount on our Turkey page.
Does EU roaming work in Turkey?+
No. Turkey is not part of the EU's roam-like-at-home zone, so European tariffs often charge extra there or do not include Turkey at all. A travel eSIM is usually much cheaper; switch off data roaming on your home SIM while you use it.
Do I need to register my phone's IMEI in Turkey if I use a travel eSIM?+
Usually not for a holiday. Travel eSIMs from international providers connect as roaming guests, so the phone is not used as a Turkish line. IMEI registration matters if you use a local Turkish SIM or eSIM for longer than the permitted period, currently 120 days.
Which mobile network is best in Turkey?+
Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom are all fast in the cities and main resort areas. The differences appear in rural and mountainous regions; for a round trip, a plan that names more than one network gives your phone a fallback. Avea is the former name of Türk Telekom's mobile network.
Can I get a Turkish phone number with an eSIM?+
Most travel eSIMs for Turkey are data only, and only a small share of the plans we track include calls. Calls and messages work through apps such as WhatsApp. For a Turkish number, you would need a local SIM or eSIM from a Turkish operator, where the IMEI rules apply.
Will a Turkey eSIM work on the Greek islands?+
A Turkey-only plan does not work in Greece. For day trips to Kos, Rhodes or other islands, use a regional plan that includes both Turkey and Greece, or buy a separate small Greece plan for the day.
