Best eSIM for Egypt: prices, Orange, Vodafone and Etisalat networks, unlimited plans and Nile trips

Best eSIM for Egypt: daily-updated prices, which plans use Orange, Vodafone or Etisalat, coverage on the Nile and Red Sea, and when a regional plan pays off.

Guides · 20 October 2026 · 9 min read

The best eSIM for Egypt for most travellers is an Egypt-only data plan that names at least two of the networks Orange, Vodafone and Etisalat, with enough data for your trip. You install it at home, switch it on when you land in Cairo, Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh and have data from the arrivals hall, without queueing for a local SIM card. This guide compares every Egypt plan in our database with live prices, explains the fair-use rules behind “unlimited”, and shows when a Middle East plan is worth it, for example for a trip that also takes in Petra in Jordan.

Quick answer: which Egypt eSIM to choose

  • Cairo, Giza and the pyramids for a few days: an Egypt plan with 3 to 5 GB covers maps, ride-hailing apps, messaging and photos.
  • Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan: an Egypt plan with around 10 GB that names two or more networks, so your phone can switch when one drops out between towns.
  • Red Sea resort in Hurghada, Sharm el-Sheikh or Dahab: a smaller plan with a longer validity is often enough, because most hotels have Wi-Fi.
  • Egypt and Jordan on one trip: a Middle East plan, after checking that both countries are on its list.
  • Remote work or a laptop on hotspot: an unlimited plan that keeps at least 1 Mbps after the daily allowance.

Egypt eSIM prices: the cheapest plan for every data amount

Egypt is one of the best-covered destinations in our database: all 41 providers we track sell plans that include it, and 40 of them offer plans for Egypt alone, about 1,300 in total. The table shows the cheapest plan for each data amount with at least 7 days of validity, including regional and global plans:

Prices for the same amount of data differ a lot between providers. When we compared 5 GB plans valid for 7 to 30 days for this guide, 40 providers offered one, and the typical price was about four times the cheapest. Our Egypt comparison page lists every plan and lets you filter by data, validity and network.

Before you pick the cheapest line, check how many days the plan is valid, which networks it names and whether it can be topped up. A plan you can top up lets you start small and add data later instead of buying a second eSIM. If you are unsure how much you need, our guide to data usage on a trip has figures for maps, messaging, social media and video.

Orange, Vodafone or Etisalat: which network does your eSIM use?

Egypt has four mobile networks: Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, Etisalat Misr, which belongs to the e& group and is listed by some providers as “e&”, and WE, the mobile brand of Telecom Egypt. Providers write the names in different ways, such as “Orange Egypt (EMS)” or “Etisalat-Misr”; they are the same networks. This is how often each network appears in the Egypt-only plans that name one:

Networks used by Egypt eSIM plans

e&91100 %€1.45
Country plans only, as stated by the providers; one plan can use several networks. Prices checked daily, last check 2 November 2026.

In our data, Orange appears in almost nine in ten Egypt-only plans that name a network, Vodafone in about six in ten and Etisalat in about half. WE does not appear in any travel eSIM plan in our database, so you will not end up on it with a travel eSIM.

In Cairo, Alexandria and the tourist centres, all three networks work well for typical travel use. What matters more is how many networks a plan can use: among Egypt-only plans with a fixed amount of data that name their networks, a little more than half list at least two, and about one in four list all three. With such a plan, your phone can switch to another network when the first one has no signal.

About seven in ten Egypt-only plans in our database list 5G. 5G in Egypt is still new, so outside the larger cities expect 4G, which is fast enough for everything most travellers do.

Coverage in Cairo, on the Nile, at the Red Sea and in the desert

Almost everyone in Egypt lives along the Nile and the coast, and mobile coverage follows them. You can expect good coverage in Cairo and Giza, Alexandria, Luxor and Aswan, along the Nile valley and in the Red Sea resorts. Coverage becomes patchy or disappears in three kinds of places:

  • The desert: on the long roads to Abu Simbel, to the Siwa oasis or into the White Desert there are stretches with no signal at all.
  • The interior of Sinai: the coast around Sharm el-Sheikh and Dahab is well covered, the mountains around Saint Catherine much less so.
  • Out at sea: on diving and snorkelling day trips, signal fades once the boat is a few kilometres from shore.

On a Nile cruise you are rarely far from a town, so you usually have signal, with short gaps between towns. For desert trips, download offline maps before you leave, and keep in mind that the validity of most plans keeps running on days without signal.

Unlimited eSIMs for Egypt: what the fair-use limits mean

Most “unlimited” plans for Egypt give you a daily amount of data at full speed and then slow down until the next day. Two numbers decide whether a plan suits you: how much data you get at full speed each day, and how fast the connection is after that. The cheapest unlimited plans by length of stay:

“Unlimited” plans slow down after a daily full-speed allowance; the right column only counts plans that state at least 2 GB per day. Prices checked daily, last check 2 November 2026.

Of the unlimited plans that cover Egypt, roughly a quarter drop to 128 kbps after the daily allowance. That is enough for text messages, but maps load slowly and voice calls barely work. A slightly larger share keep 1 Mbps or more, which still handles navigation, music and calls. If you want to stream or work from Egypt, look for at least 2 GB a day at full speed and 1 Mbps or more afterwards.

For light use, a fixed amount of data is usually cheaper than unlimited. Our guide to how unlimited eSIMs really work explains when they pay off. Hotspot use is allowed on almost all Egypt plans that state a rule; details are in our guide to using an eSIM as a hotspot.

Egypt-only, Middle East or global plan?

If you only travel in Egypt, an Egypt-only plan is the better deal. When we compared plans with the same amount of data for this guide, the median Middle East plan cost roughly 30 to 60 % more than the median Egypt-only plan, the median global plan about twice as much or more, and Africa plans that include Egypt even more.

A regional plan makes sense when your trip continues to another country. The most common combination is Egypt with Jordan, for example Cairo and Petra, often via Aqaba. In our database, about six in ten Middle East plans that cover Egypt also include Jordan, two in three include Turkey and about eight in ten the United Arab Emirates. Open the country list before you buy, because plans with the same name can cover different countries.

Compare Middle East plans and Jordan plans, or read our guides for Dubai and Turkey if your trip continues there. Our guide to regional and global eSIMs explains the trade-offs.

Calls, WhatsApp and local SIM cards

Almost all travel eSIMs for Egypt are data-only: only 34 of the more than 4,000 plans covering Egypt in our database include calls or texts. WhatsApp, which many hotels, drivers and tour guides in Egypt use, works over the eSIM data with your usual number, and so do ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Careem. If you need text messages from home, for example bank codes, keep your home SIM active with mobile data switched off. Our guide to using a travel eSIM with your home number shows the settings.

Local SIM cards from Vodafone, Orange, Etisalat and WE are sold at kiosks in the arrival halls of the main airports. They have to be registered with your passport, and the queues can be long after an evening arrival. For a stay of several weeks a local SIM can be cheaper per gigabyte; for a typical holiday, a travel eSIM saves the queue and works the moment you land.

How to set up your Egypt eSIM before you travel

  1. Check your phone. It must support eSIM and must not be locked to your carrier. Our guide on how to check eSIM compatibility takes two minutes.
  2. Buy and install at home. Install the eSIM over Wi-Fi a few days before you fly, following the steps for iPhone or Android. Check whether the validity starts at installation or on first use in Egypt.
  3. Label the lines. Name the new line “Egypt” and your home SIM “Home”.
  4. Switch over when you land. Select the Egypt line for mobile data, turn on data roaming for that line and turn off mobile data on your home SIM.
  5. Test before you leave the airport. Open a map or send a WhatsApp message while the airport Wi-Fi is still there as a fallback.
Many providers offer a discount for new customers; current codes are on our promo codes page. If you are unsure when to switch the eSIM on, read when to activate an eSIM.

Questions travellers ask

Which network is best for an eSIM in Egypt?+

In Cairo, Alexandria and the tourist areas, Orange, Vodafone and Etisalat all work well for typical travel use. Orange appears in almost nine in ten Egypt-only travel eSIMs in our database. More important than the network itself is a plan that names at least two networks, so your phone can switch when one has no signal, for example on desert roads.

Do I need to register a travel eSIM in Egypt?+

No. A travel eSIM is sold by a provider outside Egypt and connects to Orange, Vodafone or Etisalat through roaming agreements, so there is nothing to register in Egypt. Passport registration only applies to local SIM cards bought from an Egyptian operator. If a provider needs to verify your identity for a plan, it says so before you buy.

Does a travel eSIM work on a Nile cruise?+

Usually yes. Cruises between Luxor and Aswan follow the Nile valley, where most towns are, so you are rarely far from a mobile mast. Expect short gaps between towns. A plan that names two or more networks helps, because your phone can switch when one network has no signal.

Can I use my Egypt eSIM in Jordan?+

Only if the plan also covers Jordan. An Egypt-only plan works in Egypt, but not in Petra, Aqaba or Amman. For both countries, choose a Middle East plan that lists Egypt and Jordan; in our database about six in ten Middle East plans that cover Egypt also include Jordan.

Does 5G work with a travel eSIM in Egypt?+

About seven in ten Egypt-only plans in our database list 5G, but 5G in Egypt is still new and limited to parts of the larger cities. You also need a 5G phone. Elsewhere the eSIM connects over 4G, which is fast enough for maps, video calls and social media.

How much data do I need for a week in Egypt?+

For maps, messaging, ride-hailing apps and some social media, 5 to 10 GB is usually enough for a week. Light users who rely on hotel Wi-Fi at the Red Sea can manage with 3 GB. If you stream video, make video calls or use your phone as a hotspot for a laptop, an unlimited plan is the safer choice.
